Hats for The Homeless
Hat’s for the Homeless is a project I started a few years back with my textile colleague Tina Kreibich. It is a program we run twice a year in the Fall and Summer to support and lend a hand to those experiencing homelessness. With our knitting machines, we invite the public - both pro and novice alike - to participate in knitting hats, fingerless gloves, and scarves to be donated to Grace’s Cafe and Sunday Love. This program brings awareness to the craft of how hand loomed knits are made, along with caring and contributing to our community in need. This program is a meaningful way we can participate in repairing our world, helping, and bringing recognition to fellow Philadelphians who deserve to feel cared for. Sharing knowledge and allowing free public participation is an important step in making the craft more accessible to all.
